Altiplano & Lauca Private Expeditions

The Andean Altiplano and Lauca National Park offer one of the most spectacular high-altitude landscapes in South America.

Located in northern Chile near the border with Bolivia, this region is home to snow-capped volcanoes, vast Andean plains, high-altitude wetlands and unique wildlife.

Our private expeditions explore remote regions of the Altiplano including Lauca National Park, Lake Chungará and the iconic Parinacota Volcano. These journeys are designed for travelers seeking untouched landscapes, wildlife encounters and extraordinary photography opportunities.

All expeditions are fully private and tailor-made, allowing us to adapt the itinerary according to your interests, pace and preferred photography conditions.

Photography during the expedition

As a professional landscape photographer and PhotoPills Master, photography is an essential part of the experience. The Altiplano offers incredible light conditions, dramatic volcanic landscapes and unique wildlife photography opportunities.

During the journey I also capture professional photographs of the landscapes and moments of the expedition, creating a unique visual record of your time in the Atacama Desert.

Private tailor-made experiences

All expeditions are completely private and designed individually for each traveler.

This allows us to explore remote locations, adapt the schedule to the best light conditions and move at a comfortable pace while discovering the landscapes of the Atacama Desert.

To ensure safety and connectivity even in remote areas, our expeditions include satellite internet available at all times.

Wildlife and Nature of the Altiplano

The Andean Altiplano is one of the most fascinating high-altitude ecosystems in South America. These remote landscapes are home to a remarkable diversity of wildlife adapted to extreme conditions.

During our expeditions it is common to encounter vicuñas, alpacas, flamingos and numerous Andean bird species that inhabit the wetlands and high-altitude lagoons of the Altiplano.

This region is also home to the queñua forests, one of the most unique ecosystems in the Andes. The queñua tree is considered the highest-growing tree species in the world, surviving in extreme environments above 4,500 meters.

With some luck, travelers may also encounter the Taruca (Andean deer), a rare and elusive species that inhabits the remote valleys and mountains of the high Andes.

Cultural and Historical Heritage

Our expeditions also explore the cultural history of northern Chile.

Part of the journey follows sections of the historic Pan-American Highway, where it is still possible to find vestiges of the ancient saltpeter mining industry that shaped the history of the Atacama Desert during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Along the route we may visit abandoned salitreras and other historical sites that offer a fascinating glimpse into the region's industrial past.

Places we may explore during the expedition

Depending on the itinerary and travel conditions, expeditions may include visits to some of the most remote and extraordinary landscapes of northern Chile:

Ancient Geoglyphs scattered across the desert slopes
Historic abandoned saltpeter mining towns (salitreras)
Laguna Roja and the remote Camiña valley
Traditional Altiplano villages such as Cariquima, Isluga and Guallatire
Pre-Andean villages like Putre and Socoroma
The beautiful Cotacotani Lagoons
Salar del Huasco National Park, an important wetland ecosystem
Volcán Isluga National Park, surrounded by high-altitude landscapes
Surire Salt Flat Natural Monument, one of the most remote salt flats in northern Chile
Las Vicuñas National Reserve, home to large populations of vicuñas
The striking Taapacá Volcano
The spectacular landscapes of Suriplaza

These locations offer a unique combination of wildlife, culture, geology and photography opportunities across some of the most remote regions of the Andes.
