Private expeditions in Bolivia and the Uyuni Salt Flat

The Uyuni Salt Flat in Bolivia is the largest salt flat on Earth and one of the most extraordinary landscapes on the planet.

Stretching over more than 10,000 square kilometers, this immense salt desert offers endless horizons, surreal geological formations and some of the most spectacular photography opportunities in South America.

During the rainy season, the salt flat transforms into a gigantic natural mirror, reflecting the sky and surrounding volcanoes to create one of the most unique landscapes on Earth.

Our expeditions explore not only the Uyuni Salt Flat itself but also the vast and remote landscapes of the Bolivian Altiplano, including colorful lagoons, volcanic deserts and high-altitude ecosystems rarely visited by traditional tours.

All journeys are fully private and tailor-made, designed according to the interests and travel rhythm of each traveler.

Guided private expeditions

During every expedition I personally accompany our travelers throughout the journey.

For the Bolivia section of the expedition we collaborate with highly experienced Bolivian guides specialized in private and photography-oriented expeditions, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience in remote regions of the Altiplano.

All expeditions are carried out using high-end Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles, ideal for exploring the vast landscapes and challenging terrain of the Bolivian Altiplano.

This combination of local expertise, professional photography guidance and reliable vehicles allows us to explore remote areas safely while maintaining a high level of comfort.

Photography in Uyuni

The Uyuni Salt Flat is considered one of the best places on Earth for landscape photography.

The geometric patterns of the salt crust, endless horizons and perfect reflections during the rainy season create extraordinary photographic opportunities.

As a professional landscape photographer and PhotoPills Master, I assist travelers interested in capturing these unique landscapes while also photographing the expedition itself, creating a visual record of the journey.

Landscapes we explore

Our expeditions may include visits to some of the most spectacular landscapes of the Bolivian Altiplano:

Uyuni Salt Flat
Incahuasi Island and giant cacti
High-altitude volcanic deserts
Colorful lagoons such as Laguna Colorada and Laguna Verde
Flamingo habitats of the Altiplano
Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna Reserve
Coral fossil caves formed by ancient geological processes
Salt labyrinths and natural salt sculptures formed on the salt flat
Sajama National Park and the landscapes surrounding Bolivia's highest volcano
Remote volcanic landscapes and geothermal fields

These landscapes offer an extraordinary combination of geology, wildlife and photography opportunities across one of the most remote regions of the Andes.

What to expect during each season

Rainy season

From December until late March the Altiplano enters the rainy season.

During this time the surrounding volcanoes are often covered with snow and the Uyuni Salt Flat floods, creating the famous mirror effect where the sky and clouds are perfectly reflected on the surface of the salt flat.

Depending on the intensity of the rains, this mirror effect can sometimes extend into April or even May.

When the salt flat is flooded, access to the islands within the salar — such as Incahuasi — may not be possible.

During this season travelers can also expect dramatic storms, powerful cloud formations and rapidly changing weather conditions, which can create spectacular photographic moments.

Dry season

From April to December the region enters the dry season.

As the water evaporates, a fresh and bright layer of salt forms on the surface of the salar. Gradually the famous geometric salt patterns and hexagonal formations begin to appear.

During this time it becomes possible to cross the salt flat in multiple directions and visit more locations such as Incahuasi Island and Isla Pescado.

Weather conditions are generally more stable, making this season particularly favorable for astrophotography and night sky photography over the salt flat.
